Join us for the first annual Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Bed Races to be held following the Early Bird Sale on Saturday, November 22, 2008. The Early Bird Sale is from 6-9am. The Bed Parade will begin at 10am with the races immediately following.
Race Details:
All entries for the Bed Races should be tastefully decorated
in a theme appropriate for youth viewing.
Entries should meet at the Village Green no later than 10am. At 10am, the beds will parade from the
Village Green, down
The start/finish line will be on
Teams:
· Teams will be made up of 5 people: 1 rider, and 4 pushers.
· Anyone age 14 and over is welcome to participate. A parent or guardian must sign the waiver of liability for any participant under the age of 18. At least one person on the team must be 18 or older.
Entry fee:
The entry fee per team is $20.00, which will go toward the prize amounts. The entry deadline is Monday, November 17, 2008. Make checks payable to “Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce.” Upon receipt of your registration form and entry fee the team will receive a coupon worth 10% off the cost of supplies at either Bar Harbor Trustworthy, EBS, or Paradis True Value.

· The prize for Best Decorated Bed will be “Dinner and a Movie”, which includes 5 single admission movie tickets to the Criterion Theatre and gift certificates to The Thirsty Whale.
Rules and Guidelines:
Bed Construction
· May be an existing bed, or one specially made for the race but it must look like a real bed and have a headboard and footboard
· Beds must have a real mattress and/or box spring of twin size or bigger, no cribs or toddler beds.
· Beds must have 4 wheels, they may be swivel wheels or permanently fixed.
· The beds must have NO means of mechanical propulsion or brakes. Human power only.
· Push bars are allowed but are not to exceed width of bed.
· Beds must be tastefully decorated in theme appropriate for youth viewing. Teams need to display their name on the bed. All decorations must be securely fastened. No sharp objects, projections or anything that may be dangerous will be allowed.
· All beds will be inspected prior to the race and violations will lead to disqualification.
Race
· The point of the bed that extends the furthest in front will be aligned with the starting line.
· The rider must be on the bed as long as it is in motion and may not help at any time with the propulsion of the bed. If the rider falls off, the bed must come to a complete stop until the rider is back on.
· All members must be in contact with and in control of the bed at all times.
· Team members cannot interfere with their opponents in any way.
· Your safety is very important to us. Team members must wear appropriate shoes. Safety gear to avoid hazards is recommended. The use of helmets, kneepads, and/or elbow pads is strongly encouraged for all participants.
· The races will happen rain, snow or shine, so please plan for the weather. In the event of extreme inclement weather and safety becomes an issue, the Bed Races will be cancelled.
